Accessible dance in community.

Our programs create opportunities for blind, visually impaired and sighted people to learn, connect and experience partner dance together.

Inclusive Dance Series

We teach regularly scheduled accessible dance classes in Dallas, Atlanta, and San Francisco (pilot program) that focus on foundational partner-dance technique, musicality and body awareness.

Classes are led by We Can Dance instructors, both blind and sighted, using a multi-sensory approach that incorporates tactile, auditory, verbal and kinesthetic techniques. Sighted participants may use blindfolds to experience movement beyond visual demonstration and engage more fully in non-visual learning.

Dance in the Dark™ Socials

Dance in the Dark™ socials bring blind, visually impaired and sighted communities together to socialize and connect through partner dance. We Can Dance has offered quarterly socials in Dallas in partnership with Envision since 2023 and in Atlanta in partnership with Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled since 2025.

Socials are held in welcoming environments familiar to the blind and visually impaired community. Seasoned and beginner sighted dancers are invited to participate, with blindfolds used to help create a shared non-visual experience. The goal is inclusion, connection and joy through movement.

Each social begins with an accessible partner-dance class led by We Can Dance instructors, followed by refreshments and social dancing with music from local DJs.

Dance Buddy Program

The Dance Buddy Program, which will pilot soon, was created to strengthen social connections between blind and visually impaired participants and sighted dance communities while providing opportunities for continued learning between our inclusive dance series and socials.

The program pairs proficient sighted dancers with blind or visually impaired community members who are interested in partner dance. Sighted buddies receive guidance on how to support an inclusive experience, and buddies can practice together in community classes and social-dance settings.
